Who doesn't need NoTechnician?
If you answer NO to all of the following: - I wouldn't notice or care if all data on my computer were lost or destroyed
- I have never been hit with a virus or Trojan.
- I have never needed technical support to fix anything.
- I have never experienced a failed hard drive.
- I have never lost any data because I have an impeccable backup system in place
Can I use NoTechnician to replace my hard drive with a new larger one?
Anytime. Create a fresh image, change your drive, restore the fresh image to the new drive.
Why NoTechnician?
We show you how to separate your data from the system and programs.
Can I use Acronis without NoTechnician?
Yes. Make sure you backup your data to another location continuously. Remember NoTechnician is free!
What data does NoTechnician relocate?
My Documents, My Music, My Video, Outlook, Favorites, Downloads, Thunderbird.
But I didn't want to change that file. What can I do?
You have two choices
- Restore from an earlier backup
- Or, open Acronis Continuous protection & restore the file from an earlier time.
Does it matter which version of Windows I have?
Any version of XP, Vista, or Windows 7 will work. Windows Server is not supported.
What about Quickbooks or Quicken?
There are too many programs that store data in odd places for us to document the movement of all programs. There are two ways to find the data. Open the file, make a change and save. Then search your drive for a file that has changed at that date and time. Or open the program and check the properties or preferences. Often it will tell you where the data is stored. Then move the data to its own folder on the new drive that was created to store data.
My hard drive failed.
After replacing your hard drive, boot with the Acronis boot disc & restore the system partition & data partition.
Do I still need anti-virus software?

I want to print coupons but the web site wants to install software.
You can let the software install, print the coupon. If you don’t want the software on your computer, reset to an earlier image which will eliminate any trace of the software.
What size external drive do I need?
It depends on the size of your system drive and how many image copies you plan to store.
I just installed some software that I don’t want.
You can execute an uninstall – but that will not completely remove all traces of the software. By resetting your computer to an earlier time, you will be as if you never installed the software in the first place.
My friends send me greeting cards, but I have been hit by Trojans every time I get one.
Plan on resetting your computer after viewing a greeting card. The reset will remove any trace of the Trojan.
When I restore to an earlier image, what happens to my data?
The data is on a separate partition and is not affected.
Why am I creating an image of my data partition?
In the event of a hard drive failure, you will be able to restore everything.
If Windows has a restore feature, why is NoTechnician important?
Windows restore tries to repair Windows only. Also, many Trojans turn this feature off as soon as they attack.
There are multiple users of my computer?
Relocate the data for each user.
Can I use NoTechnician at work?
We don’t support the use of NoTechnician on computers connected to a server.
Why is a 2 ½ inch drive better than a 3 ½ inch?
